God leading and guiding His people through this wilderness world
Charles Spurgeon
(Be sure to LISTEN to the Audio, as you READ the text below.)Psalm 23:2-3, "He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters. He guides me in paths of righteousness for His name's sake."
Psalm 48:14, "This God is our God forever and ever; He will be our guide even to the end."
Isaiah 48:17, "I am the LORD your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go."
Our path is somewhat like that of Israel in the wilderness, when the Lord led them about--yet He was guiding them and instructing them every moment. Whether our experience is gloomy, or delightful; God is still at the helm, and will guide us continually. There was never a pilgrim who entrusted himself to be guided by God, who lost his way and stumbled to destruction. We are led by His unerring wisdom!
We may imagine that God is leading us into unnecessary difficulties. But only tell us that God has chosen our way, and we should not desire to know more about it. "He led them forth by a right way." Depend upon that. There can be no mistake, where infinite wisdom leads the van. Is God with us, and leading us? Then what more do we want? Omniscience, omnipotence, and infinite love--are leading the van!
The Lord is guiding us from day to day by His infallible wisdom. Despite these stormy seas, we shall yet cast anchor in the fair haven of Heaven. "And so we shall be forever with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words."
Why are we discouraged? If the Lord directs our path, then all must be well. If Jehovah leads the way, then the road must be right. God does not merely give His people a map; He gives us Himself as our Guide. He is even making evil things to work together for our good--so we have no proper ground for discouragement.
God Himself is leading His people through the wilderness of this present world--often by ways which we cannot understand, but always according to His wisdom, love, providence, and sovereign purpose.
Psalm 25:4-5, "Show me Your ways, O LORD, teach me Your paths; guide me in Your truth and teach me, for You are God my Savior, and my hope is in You all day long."
Psalm 86:11, "Teach me Your way, O LORD, that I may walk in Your truth."
Romans 8:28, "We know that God causes all things to work together for good, to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose!"
Psalm 73:24, "You guide me with Your counsel, and afterward You will take me into glory!"
