A wilderness of 'bitter sweets'

(Mary Winslow, "Life in Jesus")

With all its hopes and glory, this is but a
poor world, even if we could possess the
whole of it. Take this world in its best attire,
it is but a wilderness of 'bitter sweets'.

I increasingly feel that this poor
world is not my rest; it is polluted!

Go where he may, rest where he will,
trials and crosses await the Christian.
