We Are Justified Through Faith Alone

FAITH IS THE EMPTY HAND

Faith does not contribute merit to salvation.
Faith is the empty hand that receives God's gracious gift.
A beggar does not earn a gift by stretching out his hand.
He simply receives what another freely gives.

So it is with salvation.
The sinner comes to Jesus empty-handed.
No righteousness of his own.
No merit of his own.
No goodness of his own.
No religious achievement of his own.
He simply trusts Jesus.
And God gives him what he could never earn.

"To all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God." John 1:12

This leaves absolutely no room for boasting.
"Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded!" Romans 3:27

If we contributed the righteousness that secured our justification, then we could boast.

PEACE WITH GOD

Is it in your church attendance?
Your baptism?
Your morality?
Your religious knowledge?
Your religious experiences?
Your good works?
Your sincerity?

If so, you are standing upon sinking sand.
The only safe foundation is Jesus.

"Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved." Acts 16:31

Faith alone, does not mean that faith is meritorious.
Faith alone means, that Jesus alone is the ground of our justification, and faith alone is the means by which His righteousness is received.

The sinner is saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Jesus alone.

Therefore, stop looking to yourself.
Stop trusting your religious performance.
Stop trying to make yourself acceptable to God.

Look to Jesus.
Trust Jesus.
Rest in Jesus.
Glory in Jesus.

For "the righteous will live by faith." Romans 1:17

And when the believer finally stands before God, he will not point to himself and say, "Look what I have done."

He will point to Jesus and say: "He has done it all!"
