Christ enjoyed

(Letters of William Romaine, 1714-1795)

Christ enjoyed, being the death of every selfish affection . . .
  mortifies the carnal heart,
  crucifies worldly tempers,
  and subdues creature-love.

If we would daily walk with a happy heart, we must learn to draw all of our happiness from the precious love which God has for us in His dear Son.

We must look quite away from our graces, our gifts, our righteousness, our duties-for God does not love us for these. He loves us only in His Son! Believing this, is to find all our salvation and to enjoy all our happiness.
