Encompassed as we are by earth, blinded by
objects of sense, weighed down by human
cares and anxieties, we need to be watchful
against their secular influence upon our minds.

Oh, it is appalling to think what self idolatry
and self seeking and self complacence may reign
in our hearts, and prompt and govern our actions!
