The Holy Spirit is not only the efficient cause
and author of our spiritual life; but He is also
the sustainer of it.
 
We need fresh communications of His grace
every step of our course, to keep before us . . .
   the glory of God as our center, rest, and end;
   the loveliness, beauty, and preciousness of Christ;
   the evil of sin;
   the transcendent excellence of holiness;
   the sublimity and importance of heaven, and eternal life.
